An effective shamanic healing practice depends on a combination of factors, including authentic and rigorous training in methods and direct experience with clients. As a spiritual healing method, the pragmatic aspects of the profession may be easily overlooked, and yet can make the difference between a valuable experience and a profoundly healing one from the client’s viewpoint. By combining lecture, small group discussion, interactive exercises, and journeying, this workshop will help you create a healing practice that inspires and supports you and your clients. We will address ethical issues such as permission, describing shamanic healing and screening potential clients, what to do before and after a session, and practicing with integrity and respect. It will include some of the pragmatic aspects of an effective shamanic practice, such as fees for your service and designing your healing space.

Purpose

This workshop is intended to help you develop an ethical, effective shamanic practice that has integrity and is based in respect for all beings. It will provide guidelines and ways of deciding for yourself regarding ethical issues—such as whether there is permission to do shamanic healing work in a specific situation—rather than "one size fits all" rules or answers. It will increase the professionalism of shamanic practice by helping you to create a supportive container that enhances your healing work, including appropriate boundaries, safety, and freedom to practice within that container. Note: The training will not address shamanic healing and divination methodologies or marketing issues and strategies.

This training is appropriate for those beginning a shamanic practice who want know what issues to consider and how to plan their future practice. It can be especially helpful for seasoned healers to dialogue with other practitioners and to help deepen their own work. Note: Some students who are very new to the work may find it beneficial to have had more training and practice in the healing methods (psychopomp work, extraction, and soul retrieval) before taking this workshop.

What Participants Say

"This workshop was like bringing both wings of the bird together. This workshop was the wing of ethics. I felt the information and journeys provided the platform of professionalism as a shamanic practitioner. I found the information to be a vital aspect for my practice."

"Loads of material and lots of discussion from participants about their experiences (those who are in private practice from both shamanism and other fields), lots of inspiring questions/discussion. Very informative. Glad I participated!"

"I found the workshop so well organized and complete, while still staying with journeying as the main 'tool' for learning. A good balance between group discussion and breakout room discussion."
