My shamanic journey began as a teenager when I had the opportunity to travel around the world with my father, visiting ten countries on five continents. The experience of engaging with so many different people from diverse cultures planted a seed of exploration in me, and began a lifelong quest for meaning, purpose, and a way to give back.
In 1986, I completed studies at the School of Nutritional Health Science, and was accepted into the Sutherland Chan School of Massage Therapy, where I studied a wide range of therapeutic modalities. I also had the opportunity there to facilitate ongoing workshops.
After marriage, the birth of my children, and building a successful clinical massage practice, I found that I was still seeking something more. I realized that physical therapies are only part of the healing process, and that the deeper levels are in spiritual healing.
I joined a teaching lodge and was introduced to shamanism there. This led to further travels to explore ancient practices and philosophies. I visited England, Ireland, the Bahamas, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Mexico. In 2017, I had the opportunity to travel to Mongolia to explore the shamanism of that land. I spent two weeks with local shamans who inspired me with their wisdom and appreciation for everything around them. Returning home, I viewed the world, and my role in it, with new eyes.
When I learned about the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, I felt a new door was opening and I was about to take another important step in my journey. Since that initial connection with the FSS, I have continued to deepen my understanding of core shamanism, particularly through my studies in the Three Year Program of Advanced Initiations in Shamanism and Shamanic Healing.
I feel a profound connection with shamanism. This shamanic thread weaves all the teachings from my life into a beautiful tapestry. The teachings and methods have had a powerful effect on me and those around me. I feel blessed and grateful for the community and the work with the spirits that now holds a central place in my life.
I am honored to be part of the FSS faculty, assisting people in learning the methods of core shamanism and helping them restore and build personal power. I also offer Harner Shamanic Counseling™ and maintain a private shamanic healing practice in the Napanee area, Ontario, Canada.
