Zoom Videoconferencing Instructions
And Recommended Settings
Welcome! This is what you need to know in order to participate in an FSS online meeting or workshop using Zoom videoconferencing. FSS online meetings and workshops are experiential and interactive. They often include drumming, rattling, shamanic journeying, and group sharing.
Before Your Zoom Meeting Begins
- Download and install Zoom using these instructions.
- Update Zoom to the latest version using these instructions.
- Select a private, comfortable location where you are unlikely to be disturbed.
- Connect your device to a power source prior to the Zoom meeting, or fully charge your device's battery. Having the charging cable handy is a good idea.
- Check to make sure you have a good stable internet connection.
- Please silence notifications, ringtones, and other potential sources of distraction.
Enhancing Your Experience
- Consider the use of headphones or earbuds for an enhanced audio experience. Clear audio during the drumming facilitates shamanic journeying.
- The use of a desktop or laptop computer is strongly recommended for an enhanced video experience. Mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones can work, although phone screens are often too small for a good visual experience, especially during the healing practices.
Workshops
- Workshop participants must have audio and video enabled. Your face needs to be visible in the video frame, and well-lit.
- Every workshop participant must have their own individual device. If you are joining with a partner, friend, or family member, you each need to connect using your own device, and be in separate areas of your home. This is necessary so you can fully participate in the exercises and healing practices.
How to Join Your Zoom Meeting
- You will receive an invitation in advance from the host or instructor to join the Zoom meeting. The invitation will contain a clickable link and/or a meeting ID and password.
- You may join the meeting at any time to test your setup.
- The meeting invitation is private. Please do not share it with anyone.
- If you need assistance before the meeting or workshop, please email the host or instructor.
- For more information on how to join a Zoom meeting, please see these instructions.
Participant Controls
- For information about Zoom participant controls, including mute/unmute, video on/off, chat, the “reactions” feature, and the “raise hand” feature, please see these instructions.
Breakout Rooms
- Many practices and exercises require participants to interact in pairs and small groups using the Zoom Breakout Rooms feature. To read more, please see these instructions.
Audio and Video Settings
- The default Zoom audio and video settings tend to work well for most people.
- If you have more than one peripheral microphone, set of speakers, or pair of headphones, Zoom allows you to select which of those you want to use.
- For more information about Zoom audio and video settings, please see these instructions.
Final Notes
- If you get disconnected from the Zoom meeting, please re-enter the meeting, and your host will let you back in as soon as possible. Please be patient in case the host is preoccupied.
- Thank you for your participation and cooperation. Have a great Zoom meeting!
