Mongolian Shamanism Revival and Rebirth, Kevin Turner, MA

In 1990 fewer than a dozen shamans in Mongolia survived, practicing only in deepest secrecy. Today, over 10,000 shamans practice openly in modern Mongolia. This is an unprecedented thousand-fold increase in a single generation. How did this occur, and what are the implications for the revival of both traditional shamanism and modern shamanic practice worldwide?

FSS Asia Director Kevin Turner was invited in 2011 to represent the Foundation at the International Conference on Shamanism in Mongolia. This visit was the beginning of a remarkable journey over the next two years, doing fieldwork to learn about and experience the traditional shamanism of Mongolia. (Kevin's book Sky Shamans of Mongolia recounts the story of his discoveries.)

In 2017, Kevin gave a presentation on his research at the International Transpersonal Conference in Prague.
