Scott Williams, MA

Anthony Rios

I have always had a deep and profound connection to nature. As a child attending church I loved its majesty and ornateness. One beautiful spring Sunday as I pondered the day's sermon that God was everywhere, I realized that if true, Nature was the absolute best place to connect with that spirit. That morning was the beginning of my shamanic journey.

As an adult, I continued my spiritual search even as I took on the responsibilities of marriage, child raising, and career. I was studying Native American spirituality and pursuing my interest in primitive skills, when I took a drum building workshop with Tom Bickford in 1992. Tom introduced me to the work of Michael Harner and the Foundation for Shamanic Studies.

I took my first Basic Workshop through the Foundation in 2001. I went on to complete the Two Week Shamanic Healing Intensive and the Three-Year Program of Advanced Initiations in Shamanism and Shamanic Healing.

During this time, I also pursued my academic interests, culminating with an MA in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut.

For me personally, I consider the value of Core Shamanism to be the effects — transformational, enhancing, and enriching — it has had on my life. Teaching Core Shamanism is something that I have been drawn to for a number of years; it affords me the opportunity to bring these same life changing effects to others.

I currently maintain a shamanic healing practice in my home town of Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
